RulesPower and Trinity Millennium Group Join Forces to Help Enterprises Modernize their Mission-critical Systems and Reduce Business Risk

BURLINGTON, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- June 15, 2004 --

Rules-driven BPM Leader Partners with TMGi to Deliver Solution for Adding Agility to Legacy Applications; Saving Costs and Mitigating Process Improvement Risks

RulesPower Inc., a leading provider of rules-driven Business Process Management (BPM) software, today announced a strategic partnership with Trinity Millennium Group, Inc. (TMGi), the leader in legacy business logic extraction, to deliver a new solution called "Power EPM." This enables enterprises to use a business rules approach to accelerate the process of improving legacy, mission-critical applications to modern architectures 80% faster than using traditional manual methods. As a result, enterprises will avoid bottlenecks in upgrading legacy systems, including outdated and dispersed business logic, and lack of system documentation and domain expertise, while reducing business risk and liability and saving on legacy maintenance costs.

Business logic within an application represents the business policies and procedures that state what needs to be done by an application and is the most important element of legacy systems that needs to be extracted and implemented in more modern architectures. Unlike current object-oriented computer coding methods, business logic within legacy systems is dispersed throughout millions of lines of archaic computer code that describes how to execute this business logic. For this reason, business analysts cannot separate the high-value business logic from the low-value execution code, which makes it extremely difficult to identify, understand or fix mistakes or gaps in the business logic to ensure that appropriate business results are achieved by the enterprise.

The significance of the RulesPower and TMGi solution is that it automatically extracts the business logic including rules, flows and objects from virtually any legacy application to a common business rules standard - no matter how antiquated the application is or in what language it is written. TMGi has authored and developed technologies that can read and understand over 75 languages simultaneously providing visual models of how a legacy application works and why it was written in the first place. The combined Power EPM solution enables business analysts for the first time to identify and fix business logic mistakes, make needed enhancements, and automatically redeploy in a rules-driven modern architecture that can be easily maintained.

"RulesPower delivers a next generation business rules and flows modeling capability for the business analyst that will dramatically reduce IT maintenance costs, improve agility and speed time-to-market," said Robin Bloor, co-founder of Baroudi Bloor and President of Bloor Research. "Its combination with Trinity Millennium's highly versatile and compelling legacy rescue technology makes it doubly powerful. It will enable large organizations to replace inflexible arthritic systems with flexible business-oriented solutions and cut costs in the process."

The Power EPM solution helps enterprises achieve results by employing a three-phased approach for legacy code transformation. Phase one entails business logic mining that helps business analysts understand how an application works. In this phase, the TMGi logic mining engine automatically identifies and exports business rules, business objects and flows into the RulesPower Business Logic Modeler. In phase two, the modeler helps business analysts graphically visualize the legacy application's logical flows with English language-like business rules that drive business decisions in context of these workflows. The RulesPower modeler automatically identifies gaps, inefficiencies, and errors in the rules and workflows to help business analysts rationalize the business logic to achieve desired business results. Finally, phase three employs the RulesPower Process Logic Server to automatically generate production code in order to implement the new application.

"Our customers realize the power and value that TMGi provides by extracting, analyzing and harvesting the business logic buried in their existing systems, and then with our partnership with RulesPower providing business management the opportunity to fully leverage their most valuable assets," said David Garza, CEO at Trinity Millennium Group. "By automating the extraction of business logic from legacy applications and having a direct path to validate, rationalize and automatically generate modernized systems, companies realize huge cost and productivity benefits. We selected RulesPower because of their software's unique rules management capability including business logic error detection and resolution. There is no other software in the market that provides this extremely important capability in a fully automated and integrated manner."

A recent study by System Transformation found that the first two years in the life of a replacement system is spent adding "lost" business rules that analysts missed during the replacement design process(1). Companies use RulesPower software to prevent costly business mistakes that result from the introduction of gaps or errors in the logic that drive enterprise applications. Unlike other products in the market, the RulesPower system enables business analysts to both model and analyze business processes and rules, as well as their interactions, early in an application project lifecycle. RulesPower delivers a complete solution by combining this modeling and analysis capability with their powerful Logic Engine with application integration functionality for automated execution of rules, workflow and collaboration.
