WaveRider Systems Power Illinois-Based Egyptian Internet Service's Wireless Broadband Network
TORONTO, March 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WaveRider Communications Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: WAVR) , the leader in non-line-of-sight wireless broadband technology and deployments, today announced that Egyptian Internet Service, a subsidiary of Egyptian Telephone Cooperative in Illinois, has chosen WaveRider's Last Mile Solution(R) to deliver broadband services to businesses and residents throughout its service area.
Egyptian Internet Service now offers high-speed communications services in Steeleville, Percy and Campbell Hill in Illinois via WaveRider's non-line-of- sight wireless systems. The company plans to increase its subscriber base in these communities, expand its Campbell Hill network, and establish wireless broadband service in Ava, Illinois by April of 2005.
"We are seeing an increase in the number of Internet subscribers that are making the switch to high-speed services. People want to have better, faster access to the Internet services and applications that are now available, and traditional dial-up services just don't support those activities," said Jason Thies, Senior Internet Technology Specialist, Egyptian Internet Services. "We were able to respond quickly to this demand by using WaveRider's wireless equipment. In a matter of weeks we installed a non-line-of-sight network, completed our initial deployments and increased our wireless broadband customer base throughout these communities."
WaveRider's indoor-installable end-user equipment enabled Egyptian to expand rapidly throughout its service areas. In regions that are less accessible, the company has performed outdoor installations to maximize the speed and performance of each subscriber's connection. With its initial infrastructure in place, Egyptian can support hundreds of users in each community it serves, and reach subscribers that do not have access to traditional wired services. WaveRider's wireless equipment also enables Egyptian to support the advanced applications its subscribers demand, including Voice over IP and other high-bandwidth services.
As part of Egyptian Telephone Cooperative, Egyptian Internet Services leveraged its relationship with ANPI/NewStreets (Associated Network Partners Inc.), a consortium of U.S. Independent Telephone Companies, to select and deploy its wireless network.
"The ability to deliver broadband services is a key strategic priority for many telecommunications companies, however many companies do not have the infrastructure in place to fully support today's applications and meet customers' expectations," said Jamie Blakley, ANPI/NewStreets.
"WaveRider's wireless broadband equipment enables operators to establish or expand their high-speed network quickly and cost-effectively. Egyptian Internet Services is one of many ANPI/NewStreets members that have been able to follow through on their broadband strategy by using wireless technology," added Blakley.
ANPI/NewStreets markets WaveRider's products to its affiliates via its sales team and advertising programs. In addition, ANPI provides business modeling, network planning and design, marketing programs and collateral, and front-line support to its members deploying WaveRider's equipment.
The world leader in fixed wireless Non-Line-of-Sight Technology WaveRider's Last Mile Solution(R)(LMS) is the world's first fixed wireless broadband product to deliver true non-line-of-sight Internet connections in the license-exempt spectrum. WaveRider's LMS systems operate with an indoor-installed modem and antenna, as well as an integrated outdoor modem with Power over Ethernet. Both the indoor and outdoor-installed equipment deliver fast, reliable broadband connections and support advanced applications including Voice over IP (VoIP).
WaveRider's systems have been deployed by hundreds of service providers in the United States, Canada, South America, the Caribbean and other international markets. WaveRider's customers have made wireless broadband service accessible to hundreds of thousands of potential subscribers throughout these markets.
