During the fourth quarter of 2005, Apple became the number one computer vendor to the education market in Western Europe, according to a report from Macworld. The company now has a 15.2 per cent share in the education market, passing former leader Dell, which now has a 14.7 per cent share.
Apple's greatest market share was in Switzerland. As of the fourth quarter, the company held a 54.4 per cent market share in the country. Apple was also the number one vendor to the education markets in France and Sweden with 19.5 and 15.2 per cent shares, respectively. The company ranked second in Germany with a 15.6 per cent share.
Hewlett-Packard (HP) was third in the European education market with a 14.2 per cent share, followed by Acer and Fujitsu with 9.5 and 7.8 per cent shares, respectively. In the US, Dell still commands the education market, where Apple is second.
