Thirty-one percent of nearly 2,000 CEOs responding to the survey ranked online sources as their primary source of news, compared to an equal 31 percent who ranked newspapers first. Twenty-two percent reported that television remained their primary news source.

"Much has been made of younger audiences turning away from traditional media for news, but clearly that trend is reaching the executive ranks," said Dan Barnett, Chief Operating Officer of Vistage International, the world's largest CEO membership organization. "There's no doubt that news organizations will continue to enhance their online capabilities to meet this demand."

According to a recent study by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, more than 50 million Americans per day used the Internet as their primary news source in 2005, up from 27 million in 2002.
